Get started with

a HOPE Grant

HOPE gives borrowers the opportunity to receive a down payment assistance grant of 2% of their home's purchase price, up to $5,000, to help them receive a mortgage they may otherwise not qualify for under traditional lending programs.

HOPE helps self-employed borrowers, gig workers, and other underserved groups who have been left behind find a path to homeownership.

To qualify for a HOPE Grant:

Program Eligibility

Grantees must have applied for a mortgage loan with Better Mortgage, be qualified for and secure a Fannie Mae HomeReady mortgage product. Other eligibility requirements include, but are not limited to:

Eligible Property Types

  • Single-unit principal residences
  • 2-4 unit principal residences
  • Condos

Applicant Eligibility

  • Grantees must have a total qualifying income that is at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI) for the property’s location. Fannie Mae AMI Lookup Tool
  • Prior to closing, grantees must complete either a Homeownership Education course which meets NIS or HUD standards, or Housing Counseling provided by a HUD-approved agency. Grantees may also do so at Better x Money Management International.
